Sweater-ing

Why now?

Casino Royale was released in the fall of 2006. From the moment the newly appointed blond Bond strolled on to the screen wearing a black shawl collar cardigan I was jealous. Afterwards I spent years searching for an affordable option to the Ford-ian design only to find it last week, on the cusp of the NE weather regressing into humid squalor... no hope of brandishing my treasure for months.

With temps beginning to creep higher and higher, I shouldn't be buying hefty sweaters but rather be focused on madras, seersucker and linen. Why must retailers and designers torture me with such wintry releases at a time when my lifestyle will descend into a sticky swamp of sweat?

I suppose I shouldn't be selfish. I realize that parts of the world are not about to face inextinguishable heat. However, my patience is limited and I find it torturous to tuck away a recent purchase, especially one so envied, and for such an extended period of time.

This versatile J. Crew sweater is elegantly designed and priced at a respectable $98. Equipped with a patch breast pocket and a snug tailored fit, I can easily see this dressed up or down. The former with gray flannel trousers, a crisp white shirt and wool tie; the latter with jeans, a red flannel and boots.

And they didn't stop there. To further my frustration, also on sale are marine toggle sweaters which I am eyeing with infinite delight:

With chunky layers like these I should look into moving to a more temperate climate.

Here's hoping for a quick summer as I'm already excited for fall.
